Ray Wallace, Jr., author of ESSEX MEMORIES & BEYOND, received notice from the Library of Virginia, that his book has been nominated in the non-fiction category for the 18th annual Library of Virginia Literary Award, 2015.

In his review of the book, Dr. Charles F. Bryan, Jr., president of the Virginia Historical Society, said, “This is local history told at its best by a great teacher, and a gifted writer.”

Wallace, who writes the Rays Raws blog, reminisces:  “Even very young, I began to realize that many well-worn traditions were beginning to wane…the most difficult part for me was to write honestly from a vantage point of today’s history lessons.”
